As a woman in her late 30’s trying to navigate both perimenopause and pre-teens, I often find my thoughts drifting to lists: tasks and snacks alike. I finally understand why women are perceived to get crazier as they get older. We’re not crazy, we’re full…
Full of ancient wisdom woven throughout our lineages. Full of leading the charge while simultaneously being the backbone. Full of the modern world in which we live. Just full.
So full, in fact, it’s easy to see how women can lose ourselves as the years go on. It’s difficult to balance our inner knowing when we’re full of the world’s outer noise.
Being the nurturers we are, rest and self-celebration tend to take a backseat. And because women are good at everything we do, we’ve convinced ourselves that rest must be earned. “Let me just get this onnnnnnneeeee thing done first…” And celebrating ourselves— celebrating just being alive? Well, we definitely don’t have time for that!
In being so busy maintaining daily life while keeping one eye on the road ahead, we drown out our intuition and slowly kill our inner whimsy.
Long lost is the girlie who loved playing dress-up in her own world… she’s been replaced by the woman too busy carrying the real one.
Whatever your dressed-up, inner-whimsy-girlie may have looked like, I bet she was fabulous and rocked the hell out of it. For me, it was wearing a sparkly princess dress, sneaking into my mom’s makeup and putting on my favorite red lipstick of her’s… then going outside to play in the mud. I don’t do mud as much these days but red lipstick is still my go-to when I want to feel empowered.
So, this leads me to ask— does the inner whimsy still breathe within you? Or has she been lost? Have you taken a moment, or even a day, to do something to make you feel empowered, rested, pampered, or even celebrated? Need ideas on where to start?
Feedback from my clients has repeatedly revealed a common thread: they each walked away from their session feeling celebrated, pampered, and most importantly, empowered. Turns out, getting hair and makeup done by a professional artist while getting to play dress-up for the day really unlocks the magic that was already there.
Because ultimately, the magic is you.
And it’s time you know it.

I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate you!
