Being engaged is one of the most amazing times in your life. It’s a whirlwind of congratulations, excitement, and planning…but let’s get real, shall we? It’s also a hella lot of work. Even the most Type A, Great-at-Planning type people can get overwhelmed when there are so many moving parts to think about.
This is why I think it’s so important to step back from the planning every once in a while and focus on yourself, your partner, and your relationship.
I’ve got an entire blog post about why you should do a bridal boudoir session, but I think that many people don’t realize how empowering and nourishing it can be for your soul to do a bridal boudoir session when you are engaged.
Beyond the session, there are some other key reasons to practice good self-care when engaged.
Self Care When You Are Engaged
During this time of celebration, it’s so important that you take care of yourself. Not only do you want to look good for your wedding day, but you also want to be mentally healthy and present for all the events you have going on.
From brunches with your besties to shopping for the right shoes, this is a time you should remember with fondness!
Self-care looks and feels like different things to different people, but let’s start with some basics.
Get enough sleep: Most people need around eight hours of sleep per night. Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day helps regulate your body’s natural sleep rhythm.
Exercise: Exercise releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. A moderate amount of exercise is the key to maintaining your mental health.
Connect with loved ones: Spending time with loved ones can help reduce stress and promote positive emotions. Whether you stay in touch via text, social media, or in person, quality time with those you care about is crucial for a healthy mind and body.
Take breaks: When you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a few minutes to yourself to relax and rejuvenate. Take a hot bath, read your favorite book, or take a walk outdoors.
Connecting with Your Partner When you are Engaged
If you feel less connected with the person you love during wedding planning, you’re not alone. According to a survey from The Knot, 61 percent of couples said they “felt more disconnected” from their partner during wedding planning than any other time in their relationship.
With all the stress that comes with wedding planning, it’s important to make time for self-care and reconnection with your partner. Here are some tips:
Schedule regular check-ins: Set aside some time each week to catch up with your partner and check in on how they’re doing. Declare a few days a month to be “wedding free” and make time to connect with each other in a different way.
Make time for date nights: Plan a special date night at least once a month. This can be something as simple as dinner, a movie, or a night out on the town.
Get away from it all: Take a weekend trip or a daycation to relax and reconnect. This can be a great opportunity to bond without the distractions of wedding planning.

- His (or yours!) team jersey
- Your wedding veil

Amazon: Tons and tons of choices…some great, some not so great. A great option if you’re cool with ordering and returning what doesn’t work for you. Sizing is the biggest issue with Amazon lingerie; it tends to be wildly unpredictable.
